Who is Laura?
I am a life-long resident of Manassas Park. I began serving our city at young age by helping my father at Signal Hill Lions Club fundraisers. Who remembers the Signal Hill Lions monthly pizza sales?
During high school and college, I worked for our city’s Parks and Recreation Department for $3.25 an hour. I mostly staffed the concession stands at the outdoor pool and at the two former recreation centers.
After college, I served on the electoral board for 15 years. I and the two other board members spent many hours at City Hall discussing voting locations and troubleshooting voter registration issues, including budgets.
Now I am certified project manager and working on a doctorate in business administration focusing on leadership.
With which political party is Laura affiliated?
I am a true independent candidate for Manassas Park City Council. Also, I am not an active member of any political party. I firmly believe in placing people before political party.
How long has Laura been an independent?
The late Mayor Bill Steele recommended me for the Electoral Board because I was, and still remain, an independent voter. As an independent, I can make the best decisions for us without being driven by the agenda of any political party or any organization outside of our city.
What are Laura’s values?
My values: what is best for all of Manassas Park. I am not a politician, nor an activist. I am just a citizen who wishes to serve her neighbors and to continue making life better for everyone.
Manassas Park is your city…my city…our city. The Governing Body’s decisions affect us more than at any level of government. So, I firmly believe in an open and accessible Governing Body. Also, you and your fellow Manassas Park residents have the right to be heard by the Governing Body and to hold the Governing Body accountable.
What is Laura’s promise to me?
My only promise to you: If you have an issue, a concern or an idea, I will listen to you. I will ask you questions. You and I will talk about the issue. When appropriate, I will introduce and support your issue, question or idea in a meeting with the Governing Body or a department head. That is my promise to you.
How will Laura let me know what is happening in Manassas Park?
You will have a few options. If you sign up for my emails, I will send you clear and concise facts about issues and decisions facing Manassas Park. These facts will include a list of pending projects in our city, including the project’s priority and location.
Also, I will hold a virtual office hours at least once a month, so you can tell me your thoughts on pending projects or any issue. At any time, you can email me or call me. I will respond to you within 24 hours.
Does Laura support the new development near the existing City Hall?
The existing Governing Body has committed us to the new development (City Center). So now we must look towards the future, instead of focusing on the past, on all issues. Right now I can work towards ensuring the new development is a revenue generator—-not a revenue drain-—for us.
